Critique

On the January ninth, we visited an exhibition made by Wu weishan on the Nanjing University with Ms.Hadley. The exhibition was called Wu weishan Exhibition, and it was a sculpture exhibition. The artworks were both contemporary and traditional.
In the Wu weishan Sculpture Exhibition, “Solid History” gave me the deepest impression. The reason was not I liked it best; it was I did not like it. The “Solid History” is of an old man, who is a famous philosopher. He had no hair on the top of his head. However, he had many hairs on his temples. The old man worn a pair of glasses, and his eyes are small.
The eyes made me think he is a very smart guy. His lips were a little think. There were many beard hairs around his mouth; his beard was long and neat. His emotion was serious but kind and his ears were not small, but also not big. The “Solid History” was made up by yellow mud, but the color was yellowish brown.
The first time I saw it, I thought it is a little vague. The reason is it did not have many small details. Such as, the skin did not very fine and smooth. In fact, I did not think it had the feeling of an old man’s skin. However, if you look very carefully, you will find he did the most important details very well. They could help me understand what it was. For instance, the people had many beard hairs. Wu weisham did not do every detail carefully, but he made the characters of the beard well. I could know it represented beard. The eyes were very vide, I could discriminate which ones were glasses, which ones were eyes. Wu weishan made the site of eyes deeper, so it could prominent the glasses.
You know I did not like the “Solid History”. As a spectator, I still think the artwork which was called “Solid History” was just so-so. The reason of I thought it was just so-so was simple. It was I did not really like or dislike sculpture, especially sculpture of people. I thought people are living things, but the sculptures of people make me feel cold. The sculptures of people do not have any energy. Whatever what kind of material made them, the materials were also dead things. Therefore, I would not feel too much from the artwork. I could just know who the old man was, it’s enough for me. The artwork is successful, it represent what the spirit was and his character. I think others any appreciate the artwork. The reason is the artwork can let people who the old man is and the old man’s spirit.
There were many artworks. Such as, people was walking, a sleeping child, etc. lucky, we also had the chance to get the autograph. I got two pieces, because I think they are worth many money. In a word, I had a great experience.
